venus is a CAL shell server, just like pluto. It is configured similarly to other Configured Workstations, and should have the full complement of software. If you need to use graphical software available on it (or on any CW), you should consider using ssh X11 Forwarding.

venus temporarily allows password-based ssh authentication. It will also lock out your IP address for a brief time if you fail a password-based authentication attempt 5 times in a row.

venus's /scratch space is 50GB (not backed up, just like every /scratch space). There are currently no restrictions on the use of the scratch space, but since the machine will be shared by many users, please treat it reasonably. If people can't play nice, we'll need to set up harder policy.
