uranus

this machine will be a utility server.

running services

HTTP proxy

uranus is running squid, an HTTP proxy. It is accessible to the entire subnet, and can be used to reduce bandwidth consumption for things like regular apt-get updates.

we may want to switch to approx or apt-proxy instead for the specialized case of apt updates, however.

APT repository

uranus will host a specialized APT repository for CAL machines. it will allow updates directly, and will distribute software not otherwise available in the canonical debian or ubuntu archives.

You can see an example configuration which uses this repository here.

docs.astro.columbia.edu

CAL's trac installation is also running on uranus.

Nagios

a nagios monitoring/alert system is running on uranus. The web-based control panel can be accessed (only by a few people) here. If you think you should have access, please open a ticket requesting it.

Munin

a munin system load level and graphing utility is also running on uranus. A few users can view the graphs through the web here. If you think you should have access, please open a ticket requesting it.
