neptune

neptune is the web server for ​http://www.astro.columbia.edu/, serving both the main web site, and the userdirs.

User Dirs

If you have CAL account foo, you can control your userdir by putting your data in a folder named ~/www. This directory will be visible to the public as ​http://www.astro.columbia.edu/~foo

Note that data within your userdir will only be visible to the outside world if it is world-readable (and the directory containing it is world-executable).

History

neptune started life as a shell server, but is no longer used in that capacity.
