Textbooks
Can anyone comment on some good/bad textbooks that students should/shouldn't buy on various astrophysical/mathematical/statistical/programming topics?
Numerical Recipes in "language"
This is a classic if you need numerical subroutines. Note that there's an electronic edition, and you can find excerpts if you Google. ~Taka
Taka: Three books I use all the time:
"Accretion Power in Astrophysics" (Frank, King & Raine)
"Active Galactic Nuclei" (Krolik)
"Black Holes, White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars" (Shapiro & Teukolsky)
Also, look some review articles on arXiv are just as useful (and often more so) than a good textbook.... and it's free!
