Looking to Open a CAL User Account?

Please submit the following pdf form (available soon). The form should be signed and submitted to the system administrator's office. The account information is for universal access to the Linux network which includes logging onto shell servers, CAL Linux workstations, and accessing email accounts.

Changing your Password

For initial account access, see the system administrator for password creation. We recommend that Passwords be 10 characters long.

Your workstation has a useful password generator:

  pwgen -s 10 1 (generates a random 10 character password)

The password file is case sensitive. In order to change your password, log into any linux configured workstation on site, and type:


which will prompt you for your old password and then request a new one; it will then ask you to retype your new password for confirmation.
