Large Scale Structure in the Unvierse: Walls, Voids, Filaments and the End of Greatness
We know what a map of the buildings in our city looks like from city planning and Google earth images, but what about a map of galaxies in the universe? Are they evenly laid out? Randomly scattered? Or something in between? And how can we tell, anyway? Recent surveys of galaxies probing to billions of light years away reveal intricate structures, some of the largest in the universe. I will talk about what we see, and our attempts to simulate and understand these features and how they formed.
