How is a Hubble Image Made?

For over 15 years the Hubble Space Telescope has inspired the public and revolutionized the field of astronomy with its crystal clear images of the cosmos. Hubble has produced many amazing images of galaxies, stellar nurseries, exploded stars and other exotic objects in beautiful colors. If you could travel into space and look through Hubble with your own eyes at one of these objects, what would you see? Would it look like one of these amazing pictures? We'll talk about how the digital cameras you use to snap pictures on vacation are both quite different and quite similar to the cameras Hubble and other telescopes use to make these images. Producing these images requires a lot of image processing by scientists. However, we will see that, while there is some artistry involved, these pictures contain valuable scientific information that helps us to understand the universe.
