Ultraviolet Universe

The universe is full of objects that emit light in ultraviolet wavelengths yet these phenomena are difficult to observe due to absorption via the Earth's atmosphere. In this talk I will give a brief overview of the history of ultraviolet astronomy and discuss some very interesting results that have come from NASA's latest ultraviolet telescope, the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX).
