     7The universe is full of objects that emit light in ultraviolet wavelengths yet these phenomena are difficult to observe due to absorption via the Earth's atmosphere. In this talk I will give a brief overview of the history of ultraviolet astronomy and discuss some very interesting results that have come from NASA's latest ultraviolet telescope, the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX).
