"Re-tuning the Hubble Diagram"

Hubble's Tuning Fork diagram has been a touchstone for extragalactic astronomers for nearly ninety years. The names and terminology introduced by this diagram are still used in even today's most modern surveys of galaxies. However, our understanding of the Universe is somewhat more advanced now than in the early 20th century. Many new and surprising astronomical developments can be framed around this simple tool; we will use it to explore a few of the phenomena that shape galaxies over cosmic time.
