Abstract: With ALMA approaching full scale operations in the next year, the number of far infrared and molecular line detections of galaxies will be escalating rapidly. This talk will serve as a primer for galaxy evolution science with ALMA. I'll talk about the sorts of standard assumptions and typical quotes you're likely to read in ALMA papers about high-redshift galaxies, and when you should believe them (and when not).
