The Truth About Black Holes

For a mathematical entity, black holes are the subject of considerable folklore. I would like to give them their "fair dues" and spend the evening painting a portrait of these objects which have so captured our imaginations over the past few decades. I will also explain how black holes can help us ultimately to test the theory which spawned them, Einstein's General Relativity.
