An Anthrocentric Universe

Measurements of the apparent brightness - redshift relation of supernova "standard candles" have been used as evidence for accelerated cosmological expansion and for the existence of a mysterious "dark energy" which pervades the universe. However these observations could equally well be caused by a large spherical underdensity at the center of which we sit. Such an "anthrocentric" model should be seen as anti-Copernican - but does it work? I describe the model and discuss whether it is viable in the face of the rich body of evidence for the standard cosmological model.
