Installation
Create a directory (e.g. tempo11) and cd to it.

Downloaded the following files: tempo.tar.gz DE200.1950.2050.gz DE405.1950.2050.gz TDB.1950.2050.gz
Moved and uncompressed the files to a parallel directory, (tempo_ephem):
cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$ sudo gzip -d *.gz cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$ sudo mkdir ../tempo_ephem cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$ sudo mv *2050 ../tempo_ephem/ cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$
Un-tar'd the source code and support files:
cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$ sudo tar -xf tempo.tar
* This creates several subdirectories, including `src' which contains the source code. Go to this directory:
cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11$ cd src
Compiled the code. The executable will be placed in the current directory.
cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11/src$ sudo make all f77 -O -c -o a1ut1f.o a1ut1f.f ... ... ... tempo.o timcalc.o tmalloc.o tparin.o tpohdr.o tzfit.o tzinit.o ut1red.o vmemw.o ztim.o cutil.o cdelacruz@metis:/usr/local/tempo11/src$
Created a soft-link to point to the compiled TEMPO binary:
cdelacruz@io:/opt/tempo/current$ sudo ln -s /opt/tempo/current/tempo /usr/local/bin/tempo
Edited the tempo.cfg.
Change the EPHDIR entry to the name of '\ the directory containing the ephemeris files, including a trailing slash. Change the CLKDIR and PARDIR entries to the full path of the tempo11 directory plus `clock/' (for CLKDIR) or `tzpar/' (for PARDIR). Change OBSYS to the full path of the file tempo11/obsys.dat. For example, if the root directory is `/disk1', these entries in tempo.cfg would be CLKDIR /usr/local/tempo11/clock/ PARDIR /usr/local/tempo11/tzpar/ EPHDIR /usr/local/tempo_ephem/ OBSYS /usr/local/tempo11/obsys.dat

Ideally the 'par' files will be idential and the 'tempo.lis' files will
differ in only two lines (date and input file name). In practice, parameter
values often differ slighly in their least significant digits.

Problems have been noticed with Linux systems writing to disks cross-mounted from Solaris
systems via NFS. File output can be very slow, which can cause Tempo to appear to
hang near the end of a run, when it is writing the resid2.tmp file. The solution is to run
tempo from a working directory (i.e., the directory where tempo.lis and resid2.tmp are written)
which is not cross-mounted. (Suggestions for better solutions would be welcome!)
