Aips

Version installed is ​Aips 31DEC03 & 31DEC02.

Where to find it here: /AIPSROOT.
    To start it up: /nfs/bins/aips. 
    Aips is accessible from the hosts in file /AIPSROOT/HOSTS.LIST. 
    Help file for Aips TV servers is /nfs/man/notes/aips.tvservers. 
    If nothing works in Aips, try command: restore 0

Axaf & Marx

Version installed is ​Axaf 1.6.1 and Marx 2.04 .

Where to find it here: /nfs/axaf.
    To run the axaf & marx programs, add /nfs/axaf/bin to your search path. 
    See file /nfs/man/notes/axaf.note. 

Sun C & C++

Version installed is Workshop version 6.2, ​Sun Pro C 5.3 & C++ 5.3.

Where to find it here: /opt/SUNWspro.
    (Previous version 5.0 of the Workshop is at /opt/SUNWspro5.0 .) 
    To start it up: cc (C complier) or CC (C++ compiler) 

CALDB(Calibration Database System)

Version installed is CALDB 2.18.

Where to find it here: /nfs/caldb.
    Databases installed are Heasarc: asca rosat xte and Chandra. 
    (Sax data is there but not added into the database index.) 
    The Heasarc databases can also be accessed remotely via FTOOLS.

CDE(Common Desktop Environment)

Version installed depends on ​Solaris version.

Where to find it here: /usr/dt.

Cern

Version installed is ​Cern 97a.

Where to find it here: /nfs/cern.
    The libraries and programs are in /nfs/cern/pro. 
    Thanks to Uwe Oberlack for aquiring the Cern papckage. 

Ciao

Version installed is ​Ciao 2.3 .

Where to find it here: /nfs/ciao.

Emacs

Version installed is ​Gnu 20.3.1.

Where to find it here: /nfs/emacs.
    To start it up: /nfs/bins/emacs. 

Figaro

Version installed is ​Figaro 5.4-0 .

Where to find it here: /nfs/star.
    To start it up, add 'source /nfs/star/etc/login' to 
your .login file and 'source /nfs/star/etc/cshrc' to your .cshrc file. 
After logging out and back in, type: 'figaro'.

    'fighelp' will display figaro help. 
Note: Figaro from Starlink is built to run on Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 2.7. 
('uname -a' will show the Solaris version of a host.)

Fortran

Version installed is ​Workshop version 6.2, Fortran 77 v5.3 & Fortran 95 v6.2 .

    To start it up: f77 (Fortran 77) or f95 (Fortran 95) 

Ftncheck

Version installed is ​Ftnchek 2.9.4.

Where to find it here: /nfs/ftnchek.
    To start it up: /nfs/bins/ftnchek. 
    Program ftnchek, a fortran 77 program checker was brought to light by Frank Summers. ftnchek finds a wide variety of errors and issues warnings about possible unintended consequences. It is quite a good tool for the scientific programmer. 

Ftools

Version installed is ​Heasoft/Ftools 5.1 .

Where to find it here: /nfs/heasoft .
    Note: Heasoft/Ftools 5.2 is now also available at /nfs/heasoft_5.2. 
    To run the new version, make alias: alias heasoft_5.2 'source /nfs/bins/heasoft_5.2_setup' 
    Then, before running a Heasoft_5.2 program, run the alias: '> heasoft_5.2'

Gnu Gcc

Version installed is ​Gcc 3.3.1 .

    Includes 'c++'. 

Gipsy

Version of ​Gipsy installed runs on Solaris 8 hosts.

We have 2 sets of manuals for IDL version 5(14th floor library).
    Includes the (IDL Astonomy User's Library) located in /nfs/idl_5/idl/lib/astron (dated February 2000). 
    IDLwave (defines an IDL programming environment for emacs) is installed for /nfs/bins/emacs. Uwe Oberlack found it and has notes on using IDLwave. 

Imagemagick

Version of ​Imagemagick installed is August 1999.

Imtools

Version of ​Imtools installed is 3.0.

Where to find it here: /nfs/imtools.
    Need to manipulate images? 
    Or convert between image formats? 
    The SDSC image tools, found by Frank Summers, do just that. These tools do a large number of image manipulation tasks from scaling and rotating to combining images into a storyboard. The tool 'imconv' can convert between about 30 image formats, reading in any of the formats and writing out any of the formats. Imtools software is in /nfs/imtools. 

Iraf

Version installed is ​Iraf v2.11.3.

Newest version Iraf v213 is recently installed at /nfs/iraf.

Version of ​Matlab installed is Release 13 with Service Pack 1 (Matlab 6.5 Product Family).

Miriad

Version installed is ​Miriad shell version 1.0 26-Oct-99.

Mpage

Version of ​Mpage installed is 2.5.

Where to find it here: /nfs/pkg/mpage.
    To start it up: /nfs/bins/mpage. 
    MPAGE will print several pages (2 is the default) of an ascii or postscript file on a single output page. Good choice for voluminous preprint output - tell Netscape and ghostview or gv to use 'mpage' instead of 'lpr'. Thanks to Ben Sugerman for finding Mpage.

NAGWare

The ​NAG Fortan f95 Compiler Release 4.0a and Fortran 77 version 17.1 library are installed.

Where to find it here: /opt/NAGWare (f95 compiler) and /opt/NAGWare_ (f77 library). Later versions are available.
Before using the compiler:
    setenv PATH /opt/NAGWare/bin:$PATH 
    setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE /opt/NAGWare/license/license.demo 

Ncdware

Version of ​Ncdware installed is 4.0.118.

We have xserver software for Xncd15r and Xncd19c from an earlier version(pre Feb 1996). 

Netpbm

Version installed is ​netpbm 9.25.

Where to find it here: /nfs/netpbm.
Netpbm is a collection of graphics tools and converters, a whole bunch of utilities for primitive manipulation of graphic images. 

Netscape

Versions installed are ​Netscape 7.0, Netscape 6.21 and Navigator&Communicator 4.79 .

Where to find it here: /nfs/netscape_70, /nfs/netscape_621, /nfs/netscape(4.79).
To start it up: /nfs/bins/netscape7, /nfs/bins/netscape6 or /nfs/bins/netscape for 4.79) 

Numerical Recipes

Version of ​Numerical Recipes installed is version 2.08, includes fortran and c routines.
