Outreach
v123 v124 58 58 A new outreach program entitled Rooftop Variables is set to begin in October 2008. Spearheaded by Marcel Agueros and funded by a Chandra grant, this program pairs graduate students with motivated high school science teachers from around New York City. The program provides the teachers with an 8" telescope and a CCD camera for use with their science students with the aim of starting an astronomy club at each respective school. Furthermore, the grads mentor the teachers in proper use of the equipment and teach them how to make variable star observations (as per ) so the teachers are actively contributing to the scientific community. (Variable stars are an area where the amateur community has a huge impact on observing programs). If you'd like to learn more or potentially volunteer, Rooftop Variables has its own website at: . 59 59 60 == Podcasts == 61 365 Days of Astronomy 62 63 == Group Visitations == 64 65 == Telescopes on 125th St in Harlem == 66 67 == Scaled Solar System == 68 69 == Galileoscopes == 70 71 == Educational Material Giveaways == 72 60 73 ---- 61 74 … … 66 79 == Unscheduled/Tentative == 67 80 81 * Family Astro - March 7th 2-4PM 82 83 * GLOBE at Night 84 85 * 100 Hours of Astronomy - April 1-4th 86 87 * Astronaut Appearance 88 89 * From Earth to the Universe Photo Exhibition 90 68 91 == Scheduled == 69 92 … … 72 95 Date (Time) - Public Talk by Presenter: Presentation BR 73 96 Volunteers:BR 74 75 Feb 13 (7:00-9:00) - [wiki:Talks/Spring2009/Outreach/20090213 Public talk by Adam Fuller: Saturn's Rings From A To G]BR76 Volunteers: Neil Zimmerman, Robert Morehead, Josh Schroeder, Andrew Brown, Erika Hamden, Adam Fuller, Jess Werk, Johnny RuanBR77 97 78 98 Feb 27 (7:00-9:00) - [wiki:Talks/Spring2009/Outreach/20090227 Public talk by Joe Patterson: Exploding Stars From Your Backyard]BR … … 109 129 Clear nights are underlined.
