Equipment Officer
Responsibilities
- Organize telescope-related equipment and environments.
- Make sure telescopes are in good-working order. When possible, improve their alignment, update their pointing maps, upgrade their software, etc.
- Coordinate with the Head TA and the holder of the departmental purse-strings (normally Millie) to obtain new or replacement equipment.
- Make sure each telescope has an instructive "how-to" attached to it and keep manuals up-to-date.
- Assign people to do daily roof checks to notice problems and review the Roof Captain's log.
- Hold a few training sessions at the beginning of each semester to train new students in how to use the telescopes.
- Make sure there are charged batteries in the transit room for the telrads.
- Approximate time commitment is 10 hours / semester.
