What the handbook says

In order to facilitate their rapid transition to our research-intensive program, first-year students are not expected to teach a Lab section. However, in order to learn to perform this activity effectively in subsequent years, they are expected to assist Lab section TAs. Each first-year is assigned to one section by the Head TA. The first-year student is expected to be present for the three-hour lab session and to provide up to two hours of preparation assistance to the Lab TA. They are also expected to attend TA meetings. (For grading responsibilities, see below.)
