The astro-events, astro-ugs, rooftop-variables, astro-outreach-volunteers, astro-social and blueshift groups are open to subscription though.
To subscribe to one of those lists, send an email to:
listserv@lists.columbia.edu
with the single line in the body (the subject line is irrelevant):
subscribe listname Your Full Name
For example, if your name is Michael Smith, to subscribe to astro-events, send an email (from the address where you would like to receive postings to the list) to listserv@lists.columbia.edu with the single line in the body of your email:
subscribe astro-events Michael Smith
Once the subscription process is complete, you will receive a message with some information about how to change the settings for your subscription, including setting up a password that will allow you to log into the Columbia listserv website to manage your subscription(s) through a web browser.
Once you are a member of a list, you can post messages to the list to be sent out to all the other subscribers. To do that, just send an email to:
[listname]@lists.columbia.edu
For example, to post to the astro-events list, send an email to astro-events@lists.columbia.edu.
If you are not a member of a list, you can ask the owner(s) of the list to allow you to post to the list without being a member. For example, if you are a faculty member, you may want to be able to post to the astro-grads list.
To contact the owner(s) (humans) of a list, send an email to:
[listname]-request@lists.columbia.edu
For example, to send a message to the owner(s) of the astro-events list, send an email to astro-events-request@lists.columbia.edu.
