Administrator's Cookbook
Here we explain how to do relatively simple but important administrative tasks. Naturally, for most/all of these, you will need administrator privileges. (This list is essentially never-ending, and the initial 10 sets of tasks listed below are merely a beginning; please add more as you see fit.)
- recover 'hung' CWs
- add/remove users
- add/remove printers from servers/CWs
- add/remove mail lists
- backups: adding disks (e.g., 2nd pair to jupiter when needed); recovering files from backup
- change quotas (in file and mail server)
- instal new CWs (including 'manual' bits like those dealing with AIPS)
- format external disks for CW backups
- replace 'bad' (SCSI) disks
- check all important logs
